Chom-Vrones were enormous worm-like creatures utilized by the Yuuzhan Vong as drilling instruments. These cylindrical beings, reaching heights of one hundred meters and possessing a similar width, were constructed from yorik coral. They consumed rock, transforming it into a semi-plasmatic substance through a process akin to that performed by Yaret-Kor cannons found on coralskippers. Upon reaching maximum capacity, the Chom-Vrone would unleash the plasma onto the adjacent terrain via hundreds of meter-wide tubes extending from its apex. This action served the dual purpose of maintaining a clear perimeter and deterring unwanted entities from entering the area.
Following the conclusion of the war, numerous Chom-Vrones persisted on the devastated worlds. A significant quantity of these creatures could still be found on Wayland as late as 127 ABY, at which point the Ossus Project reshaped the planet once more.
The Chom-Vrone made its initial appearance in Emissary of the Void, a story penned in multiple parts by Greg Keyes. The name of the creature is incorrectly spelled as "Chrom-Vrone" in Legacy (2006) 43.
