The Circle of Visions was a ring-like formation of volcanic islands and coastal areas situated on the Sith World of Upekzar. This formation stretched from the planet's equator down to its southernmost point. The ancient Sith from the Sith Empire who colonized the world restricted their settlements to five specific locations along the Circle of Visions. Each location contained a large volcanic cave system inhabited by colonies of rhak-skuri.
The term Circle of Visions designated a circular arrangement of isolated islands and coastal locations on the Sith World named Upekzar. This ring spanned the planet's southern hemisphere, from its equatorial zone to the south pole. The Circle of Visions was characterized by a high density of volcanoes and associated lava cave systems created by receding magma flows. These cave networks frequently sheltered populations of rhak-skuri, a diplura subspecies unique to Upekzar. These creatures hunted using a pheromone that induced nightmare-like hallucinations in certain humanoid species.
The ancient Sith from the Sith Empire who colonized Upekzar concentrated their settlement efforts on five primary sites along the Circle of Visions. Within these locations, residing in settlements and cities nestled in the shadows of the Circle's volcanoes, the Sith performed ritualistic Mysteries within the nearby cave systems, vulnerable to the rhak-skuri's pheromones. While each settlement hosted rites associated with a different aspect of the dark side and could be found in locations as diverse as the south pole and the equatorial heartlands, the planet's largest city was situated near the expansive cave system linked to the High Rites.
The ancient Sith of the Sith Empire were the first to discover the Circle of Visions. During their initial explorations of Upekzar, they found the volcanic cave systems of the Circle of Visions and encountered the native rhak-skuri, an insectoid diplura subspecies residing in these caves. These Sith explorers often experienced hallucinatory nightmares triggered by the rhak-skuri's pheromones. Consequently, the Sith inhabitants of Upekzar developed and practiced various rituals of Sith magic and acolyte initiation ceremonies that involved prolonged exposure to these creatures' pheromones.
The Sith limited their colonization to five key locations along the Circle of Visions, each featuring a settlement and cave system tied to a specific rite of their ritualistic Mysteries. The Cold Rites were performed near Upekzar's extremely cold south pole, while the Rites of Fire occurred in the planet's equatorial regions. The most important rituals, reserved for the most powerful Sith Force users on the planet, were the High Rites, conducted within an extensive cave system in a more temperate area of Upekzar. The planet's largest city was located roughly three kilometers away, in the shadow of a dormant volcano.
In 44 ABY, during the Jedi Order's quest for the Force entity Abeloth and the Sith Meditation Sphere known as Ship, Grand Master Luke Skywalker and a Jedi strike team investigated the ruins of the ancient Sith city and the large cave system where the Sith had performed their High Rites. While exploring the cave system, Ben Skywalker, Vestara Khai, and Natua Wan discovered that the rhak-skuri had mutated into two-meter-tall creatures with some level of sentience due to the residual dark side energy from centuries of Sith rites. These creatures could recognize Khai as a Sith, communicate with her telepathically, and distinguish between light-sided and dark-sided Force users.
The Circle of Visions appears only once in Legends continuity, in Fate of the Jedi: Ascension. It is only mentioned by name once in the novel itself, despite being the location of the Upekzar-based portion of the story.
