The Coachelle system, a part of the Silly Rabbit constellation, was situated within the Terr'skiar sector of the Mid Rim. It encompassed five planets, one of which was Coachelle Prime. This planet served as the homeworld for the sentient Lepi species, including the smuggler known as Jaxxon. The Lepi eventually colonized all the planets in the Coachelle system and a significant portion of its asteroid belt. Jaxxon later departed from his homeworld aboard a freighter.
Within the Mid Rim's Slice region, specifically in the Kashyyyk Region, lay the Terr'skiar sector, which contained the Coachelle system. This system formed a portion of the constellation dubbed the Silly Rabbit by inhabitants of the Outer Rim Territories' asteroid Oseon 6845. The Coachelle system consisted of five planets, including the terrestrial Coachelle Prime, as well as an asteroid belt.
The Ootmian Pabol hyperlane provided a link between the Coachelle system and the Terr'skiar system. Initially, it also connected to the Ota system within the adjacent Mytaranor sector. However, the destruction of the Kyyr system by a supernova circa 4000 BBY led to the formation of the Thornhedge Pulsar and the Thornhedge Nebula, effectively severing the Coachelle–Ota segment of the hyperspace route. Subsequently, gas and dust streamers from the nebula's enveloped Coachelle Prime. The name of the system was shared with Coachelle Automata, a manufacturing company of droid which designed the LEP servant droid.

The Lepi, a sentient species from Coachelle Prime who communicated in the Lepese language, had become known beyond their world by 3637 BBY. Faced with overpopulation issues on Coachelle Prime, the Lepi developed the hyperdrive and proceeded to colonize all other planets within their star system, as well as a considerable portion of its asteroid belt. This expansion seemingly provided ample space for the spacefaring species, evidenced by numerous starships left unguarded within the Coachelle system.
The future Lepi smuggler Jaxxon was born on Coachelle Prime. Driven by a desire to explore beyond his world, Jaxxon, at the age of twelve years, secretly left his homeworld aboard a freighter, eventually arriving in the Outer Rim Territories sometime before 21 BBY.
The Coachelle system was first mentioned in "The Starhoppers of Aduba-3," an article penned by Pablo Hidalgo, Cory J. Herndon, and Michael Mikaelian for Wizards of the Coast's Star Wars Roleplaying Game. It was published in the fourth issue of the Star Wars Gamer magazine on June 19, 2001. The reference book The Essential Atlas, released in 2009, placed the system within grid square P-10.

In 2006, Hidalgo verified that the name Coachelle system was inspired by the Looney Tunes cartoon character Bugs Bunny, as Jaxxon had been created as a tribute to him. The Star Wars Gamer article features the phrase "[…] having colonized all five worlds of the Coachelle system and the asteroid belt therein […]," which alludes to Bugs Bunny's line from the 1953 short "Bully for Bugs:" "Pardon me, sir, but could you direct me to the shortest route to the Coachella Valley and the Big Carrot Festival… therein?"
