To minimize expenses associated with crew salaries and life support systems, these vessels, typically moving in convoys, were often equipped with slave-rigged systems that automated navigation. During the period of the Greater Seswenna raids, numerous unprotected convoys suffered attacks from Q'anah's Marauders. To address this, Commander Ranulph Tarkin of the Outland Regions Security Force devised a plan: introduce a virus into the navigation computer of the container ships. This virus would then spread to the pirate vessels, redirecting them to pre-determined jump coordinates where the Outlands Security Fleet lay in ambush. With the pirates neutralized, the container ships were able to resume their operations without fear of assault.
