In the year 22 BBY, the planet of Coruscant was the target of a devastating terrorist attack.
Four separate explosions were triggered, resulting in significant damage to the Coruscant Central Court building, the Coruscant Court of Appeals building, and the Senate Overflow Offices. During this event, Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi sustained injuries when the skylane he was piloting was affected by one of the blasts. Tragically, thousands of deaths resulted from the widespread destruction. Immediately following the attack, medwagons and Coruscant Rescue Ops were deployed to extinguish the fires and provide assistance to the injured. The Coruscant Security Force (CSF) established emergency checkpoints, and police officers secured the impacted zones. Jedi such as Anakin Skywalker, Yoda, and Vokara Che joined in the search for Obi-Wan Kenobi, who was eventually located and transported back to the Jedi Temple's Halls of Healing.
Following the incident, the skylanes in the Administrative Sector remained deserted, and the CSF was overwhelmed by the sheer number of fatalities, which remained uncollected for several days. With the Coruscant Central Court and the Coruscant Court of Appeals rendered unusable and many personnel lost, ongoing legal proceedings were suspended, and new cases accumulated. The Judiciary faced difficulties in finding sufficient judges to preside over cases, as well as suitable locations for court sessions. Furthermore, the loss of offices and documents by numerous government officials led to a surge in demand for office equipment and supplies. The Separatists were held responsible for the attacks, and Supreme Chancellor Palpatine escorted Senator Padmé Amidala and Bail Prestor Organa on a tour of the damaged sites, solidifying their support for his leadership. This enabled him to implement more aggressive security measures and escalate the ongoing Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems.
