Coyn

Coyn, the homeworld of the Coynites, existed as a planet within the Coyn system. This world was situated in the Elrood sector, specifically at the intersection of the Coyn Route and the Elrood-Derilyn Trade Route. En'Tra'Tal, also known as "King-City", served as its capital. The planet's surface was a diverse landscape of forests, marshes, and plains, punctuated by modest mountain ranges. The Coyn'Skraj'Ha, their space fleet, was responsible for defending Coyn.

Description

Coyn experienced typical seasonal changes, marked by a warm summer and a humid, cool winter. The polar regions were characterized by cold temperatures and moderate ice caps, while the equatorial areas were warm and humid. In addition to the ice caps, Coyn's geography included three major continents and several smaller islands. The Tris, a domesticated animal used for riding, and the Tangak, a meat-eating predator, were both indigenous creatures of Coyn.

History

Millennia prior to the Battle of Yavin, the Coynite population was fragmented into numerous warring clans. This internal conflict, coupled with their accelerated technological advancements, led to a society that excelled not only in combat but also in the design and production of weaponry. Eventually, one Coynite clan achieved the capability to create biological weapons. The release of a dangerous toxin, whether accidental or deliberate, resulted in an uncontrolled outbreak. The microbe spread rapidly across Coyn. The toxin was transmitted through physical contact – even a simple touch could spread the lethal organism. This plague resulted in the death of over half of the planet's inhabitants.

Toral, the leader of the most powerful clan, recognized the impending extinction of the Coynite species. He initiated a series of reforms with his allies, ultimately succeeding in banning biological weapons and establishing a legal code for the warrior society. Toral's leadership and wisdom unified the warring clans under a single law (the En'Tra'Sol) and a single leader. During this period, the Coynites established the tradition of requiring explicit permission before any personal contact. The devastating impact of the biological toxin was so profound that the prohibition of contact became an integral part of the En'Tra'Sol.

While clan infighting was not completely eradicated under this law, the intensity of the conflicts was significantly reduced. Arl'Toral, Toral's son, successfully brought peace to the planet. Arl'Toral redirected his people's inherent aggression into a structured code of conduct by revising the En'Tra'Sol. Shortly thereafter, settlers from Elrood made first contact with Coyn. During these interactions with the spacefaring strangers, Arl'Toral came to the conclusion that the most effective way to maintain peace on Coyn was to redirect these aggressive energies into other endeavors. Consequently, the first Coynite mercenary units were quickly established.

Government

Coyn was governed by a military-focused sovereign state. The supreme ruler was the En'Tra ("King-Master"), whose full title was En'Tra'Sol'Tais'Tra ("King-Master of Law, Land and Cities"). The En'Tra, in turn, distributed land among various noble families, referred to as En'Tra'Ag'Tra ("King-Master's highest-servants").

The majority of the nobility originated from families with a long-standing martial heritage – the Coynites, being a warrior species, held in high regard and followed those who demonstrated exceptional combat skills. Most noble families had been appointed thousands of years prior, although a new family might be elevated to the noble ranks by the En'Tra's decree every few centuries. While it was theoretically possible for a family to have its noble status revoked by the En'Tra, this never occurred. This system persisted for millennia.

At one point, the planet was under the rule of King Im'Toral XV and Queen Em'Tora VII. Below them were the 29 Ag'Tra, who were the heads of the noble families of the world. Each noble family managed a Sarrh'Tais ("law-land"), ensuring that the entire planet was under the control of the Ag'Tra, who were loyal to the king.

Of the 29 Ag'Tra, nine demonstrated sympathy towards the Empire, five were sympathetic to the Rebellion, while the remaining 15 maintained a neutral stance.

Economy

Coyn functioned as a bustling hub for trade, primarily because it was the first planet that most ships encountered upon entering Elrood Sector. Given its location at the beginning of the Coyn Route, its spaceports, both in orbit and on the planet's surface, were popular locations for refueling and restocking before departing the sector. Ships entering the sector frequently made stops here due to the abundance of cargo storage facilities. Often, galactic freighters would simply unload their cargo here, and regional cargo lines would then take over, delivering the goods to other planets along the Elrood-Derilyn Trade Route.

To accommodate the significant volume of trade, Coyn established five spaceports on the planet itself, in addition to a large orbiting space station known as Skraj'Tais. En'Tra'Tal, Im'Tra'Tal, Ah'Kra, and Kroyn'Tal each boasted spaceports of stellar classification, while Kra featured a spaceport of standard classification.

Several notable local companies operated on Coyn, including Ekkar Arms and the Mercenary Guild of Coyn.
