As a Doctor, Mingla stood out as a leading figure in galactic artificial intelligence innovation and had previously studied under Stinna Draesinge Sha. She shared a romantic connection with her partner, Nichos Marr. Cray possessed a refined sense of culture and consistently maintained a polished appearance, staying abreast of the latest fashion trends.
In the year 11 ABY, Nichos actively pursued testing for Force sensitivity, desiring Cray to accompany him. They both made their way to Luke Skywalker's Jedi academy, where Luke verified their Force-sensitive nature. Subsequently, they underwent Jedi training and achieved the rank of Jedi Knights.
Cray soon discovered Nichos's diagnosis of Quannot's Syndrome. Despite this, she persisted in her Jedi training, diligently practicing each morning. During the night, she employed hypnosis and medicinal treatments to remain awake, dedicating herself to research aimed at saving her beloved's life. Her proficiency in the field had earned her a doctorate from the esteemed Magrody Institute, and she succeeded in transferring her lover's consciousness into a droid body, utilizing forbidden Ssi-ruuk technology.
The two Jedi Knights joined Luke Skywalker on a mission to undermine the Eye of Palpatine. The three Jedi were compelled to separate, leading to Cray's capture by agents of the Empire. As she endured brutal beatings, Nichos was forced to witness her suffering. A restraining bolt was affixed to his body, rendering him—partially a droid—unable to intervene. Cray came to the realization that Nichos's spirit had never truly transferred into the droid body. The droid Nichos, despite resembling her lover, was merely a droid, and no action could alter this fact. Following Nichos's demise aboard the Eye of Palpatine, Cray willingly offered her own body to the spirit of Callista, desiring to die to reunite with her deceased lover.
Cray Mingla holds the unfortunate distinction of being among the first students of the restored Jedi Academy to meet their end.
In 13 ABY, Callista would adopt Cray's name as an assumed identity while present on Nam Chorios.
