Crimson Days

In the isolated Senex-Juvex region, the period known as the Crimson Days marked a time of upheaval in 553 BBY. The catalyst for this period was Osted Picutorion, a warlord from outside the region, who married Princess Farasa Anturi of one of the Senex-Juvex Ancient Houses. Subsequently, Picutorion triumphed over the combined forces of Houses Vandron and Petro, liberating the Hutlarian species from their servitude to the Houses, and seizing control of Karfeddion, the Vandron homeworld. The Crimson Days resulted in House Anturi's transformation into House Picutorion, and the Ancient Houses underwent significant changes that ultimately led to the Senex-Juvex region's incorporation into the Galactic Republic.

Prelude

During the closing centuries of the Galactic Republic's existence, merchants forged new trading routes that reached the isolated Senex-Juvex region. Located in the Mid Rim, this area was settled after 1000 BBY by noble families known as the Ancient Houses. These families also enslaved the native alien species of the region.

The Crimson Days

The period of unrest known as the Crimson Days was initiated in the Senex-Juvex region in 553 BBY by Osted Picutorion, a warlord and merchant-prince hailing from the Kwymar sector in the Outer Rim Territories. The warlord married Princess Farasa of House Anturi, considered the weakest among the Ancient Houses. Following this union, Picutorion successfully defeated the combined military power of Houses Vandron and Petro, securing the freedom of the Hutlarian species from the world of Hutlar from their enslavement by the Ancient Houses. He then proceeded to occupy Karfeddion, the homeworld of House Vandron.

Aftermath

The Crimson Days brought about the independence of Hutlar (depicted on map) from the Ancient Houses of the Senex-Juvex.

The Third Nantama Synod, held on the planet Nantama, marked the conclusion of the Crimson Days. The meeting formally recognized both the marriage of Picutorion and Anturi and the independence of Hutlar. The latter was specifically included as a condition for ending the ongoing conflict. However, the freedom of their world offered little real benefit to the Hutlarians, who largely remained in the service of the Ancient Houses. Within a generation of the Crimson Days' end, House Anturi transitioned into House Picutorion, although the other Ancient Houses continued to use the former name in private settings. Furthermore, House Picutorion retained the moniker of the Outsider House for hundreds of years afterward.

The Crimson Days also exposed the technological backwardness of the Ancient Houses, a consequence of their isolation from the wider galaxy, leading to a sense of humiliation among them. House Mekuun rebelled against the other Houses, and within a century of the Crimson Days' resolution, the Mekuuns dissolved their House and independently sought to reorganize their holdings as a sector within the Galactic Republic. Within a century following the Third Nantama Synod, the Republic annexed the Ninth Quadrant, a region bordering the Senex-Juvex that had been under the control of the Houses. Eventually, the Senex-Juvex itself was integrated into the Republic, forming the Senex and Juvex sectors.

Behind the scenes

The reference book The Essential Atlas by Daniel Wallace and [Jason Fry], published in 2009, introduced the Crimson Days. Its creation served to link the planet Picutorion, initially mentioned in the 1989 Imperial Sourcebook by West End Games, with House Picutorion, which had been introduced in the 1995 novel Children of the Jedi.
