This species was initially conceived within the Star Wars Legends timeline, making its debut in the 1994 novel Jedi Search authored by Kevin J. Anderson; they received the designation "Cthon" in the 2001 novel Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter penned by Michael Reaves.
