The Cularin Question represents a point of political dispute that occurred during the era of the Clone Wars.
Around the year 32 BBY, the Galactic Republic issued a charter to the Thaereian military, designating the Cularin system as a Thaereian protectorate. This allowed the Thaereians to establish their presence within the system. Nevertheless, as the time of the Clone Wars approached, many inhabitants of the system grew to dislike the Thaereian presence, primarily due to the Thaereian military's harsh methods of maintaining order. The Cularin Militia, an anti-Thaereian paramilitary group, initiated armed conflict with the aim of expelling the Thaereians from the system. By approximately 21 BBY, advocates for Cularin's self-governance formally requested the Galactic Senate to nullify the Thaereians' charter. The Senate then scheduled a formal presentation to deliberate on this critical issue. Senator Lavina Wren, who represented the Cularin system in the Senate, along with several other prominent anti-Thaereian figures from the Cularin system, journeyed to the planet Coruscant to present their arguments before the Senate. During a mission involving an assault on a Separatist base located within the Ando system, the Cularin Militia acquired evidence suggesting secret collusion between the Thaereian military and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, the Republic's adversary. The Militia intended to present this evidence to the Senate, confident that it would sway the Senate's opinion against the Thaereians. A team of freelance agents transported the evidence to Coruscant, only to be ambushed by Thaereian operatives who sought to prevent the agents from revealing the evidence to the Senate. Despite the attack, the freelance agents prevailed over the Thaereians, and subsequently, both the agents and the Cularin system dignitaries addressed the Senate. Following this, based on the recommendations of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, the Senate cast a vote to rescind the Thaereians' right to operate within the Cularin system. The Senate further mandated that the Thaereian military withdraw its forces from the system. The Thaereians, however, defied this order and refused to remove their forces from the Cularin system. Shortly thereafter, they were forcibly driven out by a joint force consisting of the Republic and the Cularin Militia during the Battle of Cularin.
