Dan Gilroy

Daniel Christopher Gilroy, born on June 24, 1959, is an American director and screenwriter for film. He contributed as a writer to three episodes of the show Andor.

Biography

For the television series Andor, Dan Gilroy was among the writing staff. The initial writers room session, held in New York during November of 2019, involved Gilroy along with fellow writers Tony Gilroy and Beau Willimon, but it only lasted around five or six days. Because Dan and Tony possessed similar skillsets, they collaborated on the heist storyline, drawing from their previous experiences. The writers were aware they would be working on the prison sequence set on Narkina 5, however, the team spent a couple days brainstorming how to make it distinct from other prison settings. They opted to make the prison brightly lit and antiseptic, the opposite of the typical dark and gritty portrayal. The writers conceived the idea of prisoners constructing items on an electrified factory floor. This led to the realization that the guards would need to wear rubber boots. An earlier version of the story involved the prisoners stealing the boots as a means of escape.

Gilroy penned the episodes "Aldhani," "The Axe Forgets," and "The Eye." For Season 2, Dan, Tony, and Willimon brought in Tom Bissell to contribute as a writer. The writers dedicated approximately seven days in the writer's room to working on the season.
