Dannik Jerriko

The being known as Dannik Jerriko, also referred to as Death and the Eater of Luck, was an Anzati bounty hunter.

Biography

Dannik Jerriko, a regular at Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina.

Jerriko consumed the brain matter of his victims, which he referred to as "soup of life". He targeted murderers, thugs, and thieves, believing they would not be missed. Wealthy crime lords knew him as a costly but effective solution for dealing with failed assassins. Jerriko, an enigmatic figure, had little patience for incompetence and demanded that clients recognize the value they received for his substantial fees. After brutally murdering and draining a complaining client, no one ever questioned his prices again. He also exhibited some degree of Force-attunement.

Jerriko was born during the era of the New Sith Wars. When Palpatine rose to power, he was just under one thousand years old. Surprisingly, he did not encounter a Jedi between 100 BBY and his meeting with Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Driven by his desire for the soup of dangerous criminals, Jerriko arrived at Tatooine's Mos Eisley Cantina. On the same day that Greedo died, Jerriko detected a potent and alluring soup of life emanating from a Human. He tried to probe Obi-Wan Kenobi, but the Jedi was able to shield himself from the Anzati's mental intrusion; however, young Luke Skywalker was a desirable specimen. Jerriko's attention shifted when he noticed Han Solo in the cantina. Sensing a strong soup and knowing about Jabba Desilijic Tiure's large bounty on Solo, Jerriko planned to act, but the smuggler left Tatooine before he could.

Seven months after the Battle of Yavin, Jerriko was employed on Tatooine to safeguard Tash Arranda, Zak Arranda, and Mammon Hoole from an Imperial assassin called Domisari. Jerriko spent time secretly observing Hoole and the Arrandas within Jabba's Palace. Eventually, Hoole, Zak, and Tash departed Tatooine for Nespis VIII. Jerriko pursued them, and when Domisari finally attacked Hoole and the two children, Jerriko intervened, killing Domisari and consuming her soup.

Following this task, Jerriko went back to Jabba's Palace after agreeing to spy on Jabba for Lady Valarian and Eugene Talmont. The Anzati became excited by the arrival of a carbonite slab containing Solo, still eager for Solo's soup. However, Jerriko was denied the opportunity to drink Solo's soup when his Rebel Alliance allies rescued him. Frustrated by this missed chance, Jerriko chose to drain Jabba, only to be thwarted by Jabba's demise at the Great Pit of Carkoon. Driven mad by vampiric hunger and rage, Jerriko murdered several unfortunate survivors at Jabba's Palace and then fled Tatooine to continue his endless search for "soup," now with a substantial reward for his capture and being a priority target for bounty hunters like the infamous Boba Fett.

Behind the scenes

Dannik Jerriko made his debut as an unnamed extra in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. He was played by ballet teacher Roy Staite, who was listed as one of the 'local ugly men' in John Mollo's notes. In Children of the Jedi, Dannik's surname is incorrectly spelled "Jericho."
