Dark Empire endnotes

The Dark Empire endnotes were short essays written by Tom Veitch that delved into the backstory of Star Wars: Dark Empire, and they later featured concept art from Cam Kennedy. These endnotes initially appeared at the end of each issue upon initial release. Subsequently, they were gathered together at the conclusion of the first two editions of the trade paperback, though some alterations were made. Due to their removal from the third printing onward, the endnotes became exceedingly scarce. Nevertheless, they regained widespread accessibility through their reprinting in Star Wars Legends Epic Collection: The New Republic Vol. 5 and Star Wars Legends: The New Republic Omnibus Vol. 2.

The endnotes explored various topics, including the history of the galaxy following the Battle of Endor, Palpatine's research into the dark side of the Force, superweapons, Nar Shaddaa, Byss, the Skywalker family, lightsabers, ancient Jedi, and holocrons. They also marked the initial introduction of Ulic Qel-Droma, the Krath, and the occurrences that would later form the Tales of the Jedi series. However, it's important to note that the background information presented in the endnotes was essentially a preliminary version, differing significantly from the finalized Tales of the Jedi comics.

A significant portion of the information contained within the endnotes found its way into the Dark Empire Sourcebook.

Furthermore, the opening crawls of each issue presented unique details, such as the revelation concerning one of Palpatine's clones being fifteen years of age.

Checklists within the tenth and eleventh editions of Star Wars comics, published by Dark Horse International's, mentioned a "Dark Empire Technical Readout" feature by Veitch and Kennedy, advertised as a "First time publication anywhere in the Galaxy!" back in 1993. Initially, it was intended to focus on bounty hunters, but this content was never released with issue 10, which ultimately became the final issue of the series due to its cancellation.
