Daykim's Kingdom, a community of displaced individuals, found its home in the undercity of Coruscant, nestled below Imperial City. This settlement was led by King Onibald Daykim, who, along with the other refugees, once worked at Corusca Bank.
The story of Daykim's Kingdom began with a simple accounting error made by Daykim's team at the Imperial Palace branch of Corusca Bank. This mistake resulted in Emperor Palpatine being erroneously listed as a loan defaulter in Imperial City for a couple of hours. Fearing the Emperor's response, Daykim, along with his loyal staff and their families, escaped into the undercity while Imperial agents searched for the responsible party.
The refugees established themselves in a vacant office building, naming Daykim as their leader. The inhabitants of Daykim's Kingdom adapted to their new existence in the undercity. They successfully created spring-loaded traps to capture animals for sustenance and secretly tapped into Imperial City's power grid using old generators. To watch for potential threats—whether Imperial soldiers who had finally found them or the occasional hawk-bat—the citizens of Daykim's Kingdom constructed a surveillance system and maintained a constant guard with numerous sentries.
Over time, the Empire collapsed, and the New Republic took its place. However, the residents of Daykim's Kingdom remained unaware of these events, staying hidden beneath the surface, their skin growing paler and their clothing becoming worn and tattered. Furthermore, the community faced the threat of extinction due to its aging population and the low birth rate.
In 11 ABY, King Daykim realized that the danger of Imperial retaliation had passed when he assisted Jacen and Jaina Solo in returning to Coruscant's surface. He declined an offer from Minister of State Leia Organa Solo to relocate his community, explaining that he and his people had chosen the freedom of the undercity over what they perceived as the monotonous bureaucracy of life on Coruscant's surface.
