Delcontrian faction

The Delcontrian faction functioned as a delegation within the Galactic Senate of the Galactic Republic throughout the Republic Era. During 32 BBY, this faction sided with the Trade Federation in a vote concerning a suggested taxation bill. However, Senator Palpatine from the Mid Rim planet Naboo—who was secretly the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious, and the one secretly pulling the strings of the Trade Federation—demanded a bypass amendment. This ultimately resulted in the Trade Federation losing the support of the Delcontrian faction. Sidious, who actually wanted the bill to be defeated, was satisfied with the insights he gained about various Senate groups by analyzing their roles in the bill's failure. He then assured Nute Gunray, the Viceroy of the Trade Federation, that the Delcontrian faction would soon put forth a fresh proposal, although Gunray was still dubious about them doing so.
