The Delphanians were a sentient species distinguished by their scaly, claw-like hands and uniquely shaped, bellows-like noses. Originating from the Delphania system, they identified their various tribal affiliations through piercings on their prominent lips. Delphanians sometimes acquired additional piercings as trophies after defeating a rival. In combat, their hands transformed into formidable slashing weapons. In 1 BBY, Delphanians were among the captives held on the Imperial prison transport Purge. Within the prison population, some Delphanians established the Delphanian Face Gang, which was at one time led by Aur Myss.
From the Mid Rim's Delphania system came the sentient Delphanians, a unique species. A flattened, fuzzy bellows-like nose was a key feature on the Delphanian skull, along with a chin and loose lips surrounding the mouth. Possessing feet, Delphanians were known for their speed. Their limbs terminated in scaly hands, resembling wide, flat claws. These could be used for gripping or forming a fist, but they also served as dangerous slashing weapons during combat. Some Delphanians exhibited a rounded build.
Delphanians organized themselves into distinct tribes, each identifiable by metal lip piercings. The Delphanian Aur Myss would gain new piercings after each victory over a rival, creating a jingling sound when he spoke. To other species, Delphanian laughter sounded like a hiss or a splash. At least some Delphanians had the ability to understand and communicate in Galactic Basic Standard, though they also possessed their own language, Delphanian, which they could both read and write. A Delphanian in pain would screech, while one amused would giggle. At least a portion of Delphanians wore boots.
By the year 1 BBY, a number of Delphanians were imprisoned on the Imperial prison ship Purge, where some became members of the Delphanian Face Gang. In that year, Aur Myss had risen in the ranks to become the leader of the group. Myss's face was marked by a permanent, lopsided smirk, though fellow inmates debated whether it was a natural trait or the result of an accident. Delphanian thugs were often seen following Myss around the ship. Myss eventually succumbed to an illness, and during a frenzied attack on the Human brothers Trig and Kale Longo, Kale killed him with a knife to the back of the head. Myss's corpse was later reanimated as a zombie and pursued the brothers onto the Star Destroyer Vector. When this undead Delphanian attacked Trig, the Human jumped into a chasm. While a hovercraft rescued the Human, the Delphanian zombie plunged into the abyss.
The Delphanians made their debut in the 2009 novel Death Troopers, penned by Joe Schreiber.
