Within the Imperial criminal justice system, Kale Longo was identified as Inmate ICN 544450. He was incarcerated on the Imperial prison barge known as the Purge, sharing this fate with his brother, Trig Longo. The Purge suffered a critical malfunction during its mission to ferry a group of prisoners to a detention moon. After a reconnaissance team encountered and subsequently spread a lethal pathogen originating from a nearby abandoned Star Destroyer, Kale and his brother were among the mere six individuals who survived the ordeal on the Purge.
During a routine patrol sweep, Kale, along with his brother Trig and their father Von, were apprehended. They faced accusations of smuggling and were subsequently confined aboard the Purge, destined to transport them and 500 other prisoners to a remote penal moon. During the journey, Von successfully forged a tenuous alliance with Sixtus Cleft, the leader of the Delphanian Face Gang. The gang pledged to leave Von and his family undisturbed, contingent upon Von's ability to furnish them with stolen weaponry and equipment. Following Von's demise, Kale endeavored to sustain these dealings. Upon convening with the gang, Kale discovered that Sixtus had met his end, with his second-in-command, Aur Myss, assuming leadership. The Delphanian betrayed them and instructed his henchmen to eliminate the brothers. Kale retaliated by forcefully extracting several piercings from Myss' face, inflicting wounds and granting them sufficient time to flee to the upper decks of the Purge. In response, Myss placed a ten thousand credit bounty for the death of Trig and Kale. Myss also bribed a guard and was transferred to a cell adjacent to Kale and Trig's.
When the plague eventually infiltrated the Purge, the brothers remained immune. They endured the screams and stench of decaying corpses as fellow inmates and the barge's guards succumbed to the virus. During this period, Kale penned an incomplete and unsigned letter addressed to his father, concealing it beneath his mattress. Unbeknownst to Kale, Trig discovered the letter and augmented its contents.
After being freed by Wembly, a guard familiar with the Longo brothers, Kale and Trig were immediately ambushed by Aur Myss. Kale fatally stabbed Myss through the skull. The brothers then sought refuge in an escape pod, only to encounter Jareth Sartoris. The prison guard commandeered the pod, abandoning Kale and Trig. They then proceeded to the escape pod located on the opposite side of the Purge, but were unable to initiate its launch without the necessary launch codes. The brothers then ventured to the barge's command center, evading the reanimated corpses resulting from the plague. During their attempt to flee the barge, Kale sustained an injury inflicted by the reanimated body of his father. He escaped and they boarded the Vector, along with Zahara Cody, Han Solo, and Chewbacca.
Due to his inability to walk as a result of the bite, Kale remained behind with Cody while Han, Chewbacca, and Trig proceeded to the command center to deactivate the tractor beam, facilitating their escape. The bite from his deceased father was adversely affecting Kale, resulting in the loss of a significant portion of flesh from his leg. The infection began to spread throughout his body, prompting Cody to perform an incision on his abdomen and extract the contaminated fluid. However, the zombies, now armed with blasters, located Cody and Kale and commenced firing upon them. Kale urged her to abandon him, but she refused. Kale was killed by a bolt that struck him in the head, Zahara realized that he took the bolt because it was going to hit her. The entire right side of his face was gone forcing Cody to leave him.
Kale's corpse was re-infected with the plague, resulting in its reanimation. Trig encountered Kale, and initially failing to recognize his deceased brother due to the disfigurement of his face. Trig trailed Kale into a chamber filled with a towering pile of corpses, nearly reaching the ceiling, yet was unable to locate Kale. Overwhelmed by the horrific scene, Trig was unable to utter a sound until finally letting out a combination of "help" and "Kale." As if on cue, Kale burrowed out of the pile and started towards Trig; however, due to the fact that he was wearing a stormtrooper helmet, Trig only saw him as another of the infected. Trig ascended the mountain of bodies and escaped through a ventilation shaft, but was pursued. Eventually, the creature caught up to Trig, and the helmet fell off, revealing to a shocked Trig that the thing following him was his brother. Kale dropped on top of Trig and tried to bite him. Realizing his brother was dead and there was nothing to change the fact, Trig pushed Kale out of the vent, his body plunging hundreds of meters down into the abyss surrounding the engine turbine.
