Jareth Sartoris held the position of Captain of the Guard with a ruthless demeanor aboard the prison transport vessel, Purge. Despite being bitten, he possessed an inherent resistance to the Blackwing Virus. Rather than succumbing to its effects, he gave his life to ensure the survival of Han Solo, Chewbacca, and the remaining individuals who had survived the outbreak.
Early Life:
Jareth Sartoris was born to Gilles Sartoris, a thief and an addict of death sticks. Gilles was a brutal father who often subjected his son to physical abuse. At the age of sixteen, Jareth put an end to this abuse by murdering his father and leaving his body in an alley. Following this act, he enlisted in the Imperial Army and eventually became a member of the Imperial Corrections Service.
Captain Sartoris held the responsibility of overseeing the Imperial Corrections Officers stationed on the Imperial Prison Barge Purge. When the Purge experienced a thruster malfunction, he was part of a team dispatched to investigate a derelict Star Destroyer known as the Vector. While the team successfully retrieved the necessary components to repair the ship, they unknowingly introduced a deadly disease. Soon after, many members of the team began displaying symptoms of an unknown illness, leading to the rapid overcrowding of the med-bay with infected inmates, stormtroopers, and Imperial personnel. Under the direction of Dr. Zahara Cody, he was isolated within a quarantine bubble. However, instead of passively awaiting his demise, he chose to leave the bubble and seek out Warden Kloth's office in order to obtain the launch codes for the escape pods.
Upon reaching the office, he discovered that Warden Bissley Kloth was already exhibiting advanced symptoms of the infection. After forcibly extracting the codes from Kloth, he executed him without hesitation. Two troopers witnessed this act, and Sartoris shot one while allowing the other to escape. He proceeded to the escape pods, where he encountered Kale Longo and Trig Longo, who were also attempting to access the pods but lacked the necessary codes. The brothers begged Sartoris to take them with him, but he refused. He proceeded to open the pods, using his blaster to keep Kale and Trig at bay. Sartoris launched himself off the barge, believing he was escaping to safety.
Jareth Sartoris found himself on the abandoned Star Destroyer after his failed escape from the Purge in an escape pod. Unbeknownst to Sartoris, the Vector's tractor beam was active. Instead of drifting through space, he was pulled into the main hangar of the Vector. He was immediately set upon by the reanimated corpses of the Purge crew. After utilizing the weaponry of a derelict X-Wing fighter to temporarily fend off the undead, he sought refuge inside a Sentinel-class shuttle. Inside, he was introduced to Commander Gorrister and five other survivors from the Star Destroyer Vector's crew. Gorrister recounted their ten-week survival, which involved cannibalizing the other crew members. After narrowly avoiding a murder attempt by the survivors, Sartoris seized Gorrister and the two men holding him, throwing them into the horde of the undead. As Sartoris prepared to dispose of the remaining survivors, he hesitated upon seeing the faces of three young soldiers, White, Tanner, and Pauling. He spared the three soldiers and exited the shuttle to disable the tractor beam. It was at this moment that Jareth Sartoris realized he had been bitten. He then set out to find the other survivors of the Purge.
After taking control of a service hovercraft, Sartoris scoured the Star Destroyer in search of the remaining survivors of the Purge. He located Trig Longo, Han Solo, and Chewbacca in one of the ship's main engine wells, arriving just in time to save Longo from certain death. After rescuing Han Solo and Chewbacca, Sartoris set a course for the main hangar. However, the combined weight of all the survivors exceeded the hovercraft's capacity, leading Sartoris to make the ultimate sacrifice. He jumped into a crowd of zombies, giving the others a chance to escape the Vector.
