History

A Tusken doll of a Desert Demon

A criminal organization, the Desert Demons, established itself on the Outer Rim Territories planet of Tatooine during the Galactic Civil War period. These Desert Demons commonly traveled throughout Tatooine in groups, or they would operate from small, short-term camps and settlements. They were in competition with multiple opposing swoop gangs. It is also known that the native Tusken Raiders of Tatooine crafted at least one doll representing a Desert Demon.

In 1 ABY, a contingent of Desert Demons perpetrated the assassination of Janus, who served as the warehouse manager for Tosche Station, after his speeder bike experienced a breakdown in the desert. Around the same timeframe, Desert Demons launched an invasion of the Darklighter cave, a storage location utilized by the Darklighter family to stockpile supplies and equipment. A significant number of them met their demise when spacers, in pursuit of cargo smuggled from Tansarii Point Station, launched an assault on the cave.

Behind the scenes

The Desert Demons were featured as a faction in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game that was developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts. The game was shut down on December 15, 2011. They were exclusively found on Tatooine and were designated as adversaries of the Swoop Gang faction. Players who successfully completed the "Tusken Valuables" collection would be awarded a Desert Demon Doll as a reward. The Desert Demons are also documented in each of the five Star Wars Galaxies Prima strategy guides.
