In the year 1 BBY, the decisive event that concluded Operation Strike Fear during the Galactic Civil War was the Destruction of the Invincible.
As the flagship of Operation Strike Fear, the Imperial-class Star Destroyer Invincible was assigned the task of eliminating the Alliance to Restore the Republic. During this operation, the Invincible and its forces aggressively targeted and devastated the expanding Rebel presence within the Tion Hegemony. This campaign resulted in the annihilation of numerous Alliance forces and the destruction of several vital planetary bases on planets like Briggia and Orion IV, pushing the fledgling Alliance into retreat. Despite most Alliance forces managing to avoid capture or death, the escalating losses necessitated a significant attack aimed at crippling Operation Strike Fear by destroying the Invincible. Consequently, Rebel leaders and their allies began formulating plans to eliminate the warship.
Following the capture of several high-ranking personnel from the Imperial-aligned Cygnus Corp, the Rebels discovered that a BFF-1 bulk freighter named the Gafra was transporting a superweapon of sufficient power to obliterate the Invincible to the Empire. Crix Madine, an Imperial defector, assisted his new Rebel allies in devising the attack strategy on the flagship. In a daring move, the Rebels successfully seized the Gafra along with its powerful payload, preparing it for delivery to the Imperial flagship.
After convincing Cygnus personnel to modify a shuttles to resemble an Imperial vessel, a group of Rebel operatives transported the captured warhead onto the Invincible, disguising it as standard cargo. The crew was unaware that the weapon had been activated and subsequently detonated shortly after the Rebels departed in their shuttle. As the shuttle escaped, the Invincible was torn apart from the inside due to the explosion, resulting in the complete destruction of the ship and the death of everyone on board.
