Invincible (Strike Fear)

The Invincible, a vessel of the Imperial-class Star Destroyer type, saw service within the ranks of the Imperial Navy throughout the duration of the Galactic Civil War. Prior to the Battle of Yavin, it commanded the task force responsible for executing Operation Strike Fear.

History

Alliance Intelligence acquired information regarding this warship while they were assembled in the Dellalt system. Keyan Farlander, piloting a solitary R-22 Spearhead on a Rebel scouting mission, positively identified the Invincible.

Originally, the Invincible's mission was to destroy the Rebel base situated on Brigia. Upon its arrival, the crew discovered that the Rebels were in the process of evacuating. The Invincible managed to inflict substantial casualties on the Rebel forces, although the Alliance High Command managed to escape.

Subsequently, the Invincible was awaiting the arrival of reinforcements and supplies, in preparation for an assault on Rudrig. At this time, a Rebel squadron appeared and launched an attack against the approaching convoy. The Invincible dispatched TIEs, but they were unable to intercept the Rebels quickly enough to prevent the destruction of the convoy. The loss of these supplies caused a delay in the operation that lasted for several weeks.

When the Alliance convened a diplomatic meeting with the Sullustans in proximity to Sullust, the Invincible interrupted the proceedings and launched its starfighters. Hamo Blastwell and Keyan Farlander, each piloting R-22 Spearheads, successfully defended against the Imperial fighters until the meeting concluded and all allied ships jumped to hyperspace. However, the Invincible's assault was merely a feint. While the meeting was in progress, stormtroopers abducted the Sullustan leader, Sian Tevv. Farlander and Blastwell were once again called upon to disable the shuttle transporting him to the Invincible and to hold off Imperial fighters long enough for a Rebel shuttle to execute a boarding mission and escape into hyperspace.

Eventually, the Sullustans devised a strategy in collaboration with the Alliance. Utilizing captive engineers from Cygnus Spaceworks, they modified a shuttle to resemble an Imperial vessel. Rebel operatives aboard the shuttle, disguised as suppliers delivering cargo, successfully boarded the Invincible. The cargo, however, was a nuclear warhead of Imperial design, previously stolen by Rebel pilots from the freighter Gafra. Shortly after the Rebel shuttle departed, the Invincible was annihilated by the warhead, thus concluding Operation Strike Fear.
