The tragic event known as the Devastation of Gibad took place in 19 BBY. Following the refusal of the planet Gibad's governing body to comply with the demands of the newly formed Galactic Empire by the specified time, Emperor Palpatine gave the command to deploy the FG36 virus. This virus, originally developed by Separatist scientist Ovolot Qail Uthan, who himself was from Gibad, was then inflicted on the planet's inhabitants. As the entire galaxy bore witness to the annihilation of the Human inhabitants of Gibad, the Empire issued a public announcement, asserting that the planet would be habitable again in just a single year.
