The Dimeans, hailing from the Dimea system, were a tall species possessing sentience, but were well known for their unpleasant character. Years prior to the Mandalorian Wars, they were governed by an overlord by the name of Kraat. After the capture of the Jedi named Andor Vex, Kraat met his death when he threw the Jedi down an intake shaft, which unintentionally triggered the explosion of his warship. This leader's demise had a major impact on the Dimeans, influencing the political trajectory of that particular sector for many subsequent years.
The Dimean race originated in the Dimea star system, situated in the eastern part of the Expansion Region. Their activity in the galaxy was more prominent in the period leading up to the Mandalorian Wars. During this era, they were under the rule of an overlord named Kraat, who was especially vile, even by the standards of his species. Kraat commanded a Dimean warship, and on one occasion, he seized control of a starship carrying two members of the Jedi Order: Jolee Bindo and Andor Vex. Vex was believed by the Jedi to have a significant destiny to fulfill. As a result, a myth of perceived invincibility developed around him, and Vex himself started to believe in it.
When the Dimean overlord brought Vex and Bindo onto his bridge for interrogation, Vex demanded his release, confident that his destiny would prevent his demise. Kraat responded by crushing the man's throat and tossing him down a massive energy intake shaft. This action inadvertently triggered a reaction within the warship's reactor, setting off alarms and ultimately causing the warship to detonate. While Bindo managed to escape the starship, Kraat perished.
The consequences for Dimean society resulting from this event were substantial. The species never regained their previous strength, and the political direction of that sector of space was impacted for centuries afterward. Jolee Bindo recounted these events to Revan—a Jedi suffering from amnesia—during Revan's search for the Star Forge.
The Dimeans were conceived for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, a role-playing computer game developed by BioWare in 2003. While they were never shown in the game itself, they were described by Jolee Bindo during conversations with Revan.
