The title of Director of Sentientology was held by Obo Rin, a sentientologist who, according to his own qualifications, occupied this role at the Academy at Sab Rufo during the Galactic Empire's reign. At one point in time, Major Herrit of Imperial Intelligence conducted an investigation into Rin's background, as the Empire had engaged him to author a reference work cataloging the various sentient species within the galaxy. Subsequently, Herrit dispatched communique #46553.27h to Darth Vader, the Dark Lord of the Sith and apprentice to the Galactic Emperor Palpatine, where he voiced disapproval of Rin and falsely asserted that the Academy at Sab Rufo—or even Sab Rufo itself—did not actually exist. In a reply communique, Captain Solistein, Vader's aide, disregarded Herrit's "unsolicited opinions" and, addressing the criticisms of Rin's credentials, simply stated that Vader had not instructed Herrit to investigate the sentientologist.
The position of Director of Sentientology is found within Galaxy Guide 4: Alien Races, a sourcebook from 1989 by Troy Denning created for use with Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game by West End Games.
