The cargo area was utilized to store and vend First Order promotional materials. Kylo Ren's TIE echelon was stationed within this docking bay.
This docking bay, together with Merchant Row, received its name on trading cards that were obtainable during Disney's "Galactic Nights" event on December 16, 2017. This event served as a preview of locales within the forthcoming Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge theme park. A segment of the card's Aurebesh poem, found along the border, stated, "A BEACON FOR DRIFTERS".
According to press materials, Docking Bay 9 was the designated spot for visitors to enlist with the First Order, and it was later identified as the site of the First Order Cargo store. Disney's Galaxy's Edge model initially displayed a TIE fighter in the area, but the actual physical location featured the novel TIE echelon instead.
