Drea Renthal

Drea Renthal was a Human female who held the position of commander within a pirate fleet in the years leading up to the renowned Battle of Yavin. Unlike most pirates, Drea adhered to a moral code, striving to keep casualties as low as possible. Considering herself a businesswoman, she was only interested in acquiring credits quickly and would never stoop to dealing in slaves. Although she was known to seize hostages, she invariably released them unharmed once the ransom was paid.

Biography

Pirate queen's makeup

At the time of the Battle of Yavin, Drea Renthal was approximately 46 standard years of age. She was a large woman, characterized by her square facial features and a deep alto voice. She consistently wore mismatched and clashing outfits, often paired with various pieces of armor. Her short, spiky hair was a blend of silver and gold. She frequently sported a flamboyant beret adorned with a trailing orange feather. Despite her outrageous fashion sense and her reputation as a dangerous warrior, those who knew her regarded her as exceptionally refined and intelligent.

The Conflict over Nar Shaddaa

Drea Renthal in her Y-wing

In 3 BBY, the Hutts engaged Drea Renthal to defend Nal Hutta from an Imperial fleet that intended to make an example of the criminal moon of Nar Shaddaa by implementing Base Delta Zero. Although she received no explicit instructions to engage the Empire to protect the moon, she determined that it was in her best interest to join forces with the smuggler fleet and launch a mass attack against the Empire upon the arrival of Admiral Greelanx with his fleet. Her mandate was to safeguard the Hutts, and despite the fact that Greelanx had been bribed to leave Nal Hutta alone, there remained a possibility that the Empire would target Hutt interests on Nal Hutta. Given that her fleet primarily consisted of larger capital ships and squadrons of Y-wings, she played a vital role in the smugglers' success by compelling Greelanx to order a retreat. Her numerous achievements during the Battle of Nar Shaddaa included the crippling of the Renthal's Vigilance and the destruction of the Arrestor and Peacekeeper. Subsequently, Drea salvaged the Vigilance and incorporated the Carrack into her own fleet, thereby augmenting her firepower and her capacity to generate quick credits. She renamed the newly acquired ship Renthal's Vigilance.

A love affair and a gamble

For a brief period thereafter, she became the lover of Lando Calrissian, even though she was "old enough to be his mother," as Han Solo quipped while teasing Lando about their relationship. After Lando decided that life aboard a pirate vessel was not to his liking, he departed and went his own way, ending their relationship but maintaining a friendly connection. Following the end of their relationship, Drea dropped Lando off at Cloud City for a gambling tournament that altered his and Han Solo's lives forever, as it was at this event that Han won the renowned Millennium Falcon from Lando.

Pirate queen against Queen of Empire

In 1 BBY, Drea Renthal encountered Lando Calrissian again a year later at a particularly opportune moment for a second meeting. While Lando was aboard the Queen of Empire for a week of gambling, he ran afoul of Boba Fett while attempting to charm Fett's bounty, a Rebel named Bria Tharen. As Lando had anticipated, Drea Renthal targeted the luxury liner for a raid and dragged a large asteroid through the ship's hyperspace route to pull the Queen back into realspace. During the pirate raid on the vessel, Drea and her mercenaries cornered Fett and compelled him to release both Lando (her former lover) and Bria (who owed a debt to Han Solo from the Battle of Nar Shaddaa), even going so far as to pay him a hundred-thousand-credit bounty using credits stolen from the luxury liner's passengers. She performed this act of kindness simply because she still held affection for the young gambler.
