In 33 BBY, Dren Melne's attempt to work with Challep, the Governor of Agamar, to pilfer N-1 fighters for their technological value led to his betrayal of his lover, Essara Till, and ultimately his demise at the hands of his own hired help. When Essara Till shared this information with his family, they responded with hostility, attributing Ars Veruna's off-world transactions as a factor in his decision to become a mercenary. He was proud when his youngest son chased Till through the streets of Naboo. Essara Till was of the opinion that Melne's family had a hand in his decision to betray Naboo.
