The Eddelians, referred to individually as an Eddel, were a species from the planet of Fehern, notable for their sharp intellect. These beings, who were significant traders within the Trax sector during the era of the Galactic Republic, suffered immense losses during a war with the Republic's replacement, the Galactic Empire, leading to their near extinction. By the time the fighting concluded, their population had dwindled to only a few thousand sentients, and those who survived were forced into slavery.
Fehern, situated in the eastern Mid Rim's Trax sector, served as the planet of origin for the Eddelians, providing a habitable environment. The Galactic Republic oversaw the exploration of this region of space between 15,000 and 8000 BBY, which was also part of the volatile Kashyyyk Region, a zone marked by conflicts between various species and power structures. Eddelian traders were frequently seen throughout the Trax sector, navigating in their uniquely designed Eddelian starships, and were a familiar presence in nearby star systems.
The Galactic Empire, which succeeded the Republic, specifically targeted the Eddelians due to its pro-Human and anti-alien ideology. The Empire declared war, resulting in the decimation of the Eddelian population. A mere few thousand Eddel managed to survive the conflict, only to be subjugated by the Empire. Their homeworld was seized by the Empire, leading to an influx of Humans who settled there. The remaining Eddelians were then compelled to serve these colonists as slaves. Furthermore, the majority of Eddelian technology was destroyed by the Empire during the war.
The Eddelians were the creation of Bill Smith, who developed them for the Star Wars Gamemaster Kit roleplaying game sourcebook, published by West End Games in 1991. This information was subsequently included in the Classic Campaigns compilation in 1994. The Eddel were also referenced in Del Rey's The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia, which was published in 2008.
