Edly Fasalk

Edly "Pot-Shot" Fasalk was a male Human gunner, as described in legends material, who professed to have been a central figure in several pivotal moments for the Alliance to Restore the Republic. These events supposedly included the capture of the Tantive IV, as well as the battles fought on Hoth and Endor. The truth, however, was that Fasalk was a silver-tongued fabulist who reveled in spinning exaggerated and fanciful tales about himself. During the early years of the New Republic, he served within a privateer group.

In the year 8 ABY, Fasalk found himself on Kal'Shebbol, a planet located in the Kathol sector of the Outer Rim Territories. It was at this time that the New Republic liberated the planet from the control of Imperial warlord Moff Kentor Sarne. Despite this setback, Sarne successfully evaded capture by New Republic forces, prompting the assignment of the CR90 corvette FarStar to the mission of tracking him down. Due to a shortage of available personnel, the New Republic was compelled to enlist civilians from Kal'Shebbol to form the vessel's crew. Fasalk volunteered and was accepted aboard as a member of the gunnery team.

Biography

Edly Fasalk, a male Human, professed to have been a member of the Alliance to Restore the Republic and a gunner aboard the CR90 corvette Tantive IV. According to his accounts, he was present when the corvette was captured above the Outer Rim world of Tatooine in 0 BBY by the Imperial-class Star Destroyer Devastator under the command of Darth Vader, who sought to recover the stolen Death Star plans. After being imprisoned by the Empire, Fasalk claimed to have escaped from an Imperial prison planet. Upon rejoining the Alliance, he asserted that he led the Alderaanian gunnery crew operating the v-150 Planet Defender ion cannon at Echo Base during the Battle of Hoth in 3 ABY. Following the evacuation of Hoth, he further claimed to have served as a gunner with the Alliance Fleet during the Battle of Endor, where his actions supposedly contributed to the destruction of half the enemy fleet. Fasalk also alleged that he received two medals for meritorious service and a sash personally awarded by Princess Leia Organa for "exceptional bravery in the face of insurmountable odds at the Battle of Hoth."

However, the reality was that Fasalk was primarily a spinner of yarns and teller of tall tales. The medals and sash he displayed were mere trinkets purchased on some obscure planet. During the early years of the New Republic, Fasalk worked as a gunner with a privateer group in the Outer Rim Territories, earning the nickname "Pot-Shot." During a stop on the planet Kal'Shebbol in the Kathol sector, the group abandoned him, having grown weary of his outlandish stories.

Months later, in 8 ABY, the New Republic launched an assault to liberate Kal'Shebbol and depose the local Imperial warlord, Moff Kentor Sarne. Although the attack succeeded, Sarne managed to escape into the Kathol sector with most of his fleet. The New Republic then tasked the CR90 corvette FarStar with the mission of pursuing him and neutralizing any threat he posed. Facing a manpower shortage, the New Republic appealed to civilians for assistance in crewing the ship. Seeing an opportunity for riches, fame, and further embellishment of his stories, Fasalk immediately volunteered. He concealed the reason for his presence on Kal'Shebbol and was accepted due to his apparent skill with a turbolaser. Beyond manning one of the FarStar's weapons during the months-long mission, Fasalk often accompanied ground parties, operating the weapons console on landing shuttles.

Personality and traits

Edly Fasalk possessed black hair and a fair complexion. He was an avid talker, readily sharing his stories with anyone willing to listen. His constant recounting of these tales often irritated those around him. He frequently boasted of his weapon skills, claiming they had earned him medals and commendations. While his shipmates found him annoying, his tall tales and incessant chatter were tolerated because of his accuracy with his weapon.

Skills and abilities

While a competent gunner, Fasalk's skills were not as exceptional as he claimed. He often fired prematurely, without accurate range readings, and sometimes disregarded the presence of friendly ships between himself and his target. He also had a tendency to open fire against orders and to shoot at retreating targets beyond effective range. Fasalk was trained to operate weapons and shield systems on both capital ships and smaller vessels. He possessed some skill in unarmed combat and was a capable bargainer and gambler.

Equipment

Fasalk wore a blast vest over his orange coveralls and proudly displayed his sash and medals across his chest.

Behind the scenes

Edly Fasalk was created for The DarkStryder Campaign, a multi-book adventure published in 1995 by West End Games for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. As a member of the FarStar's support crew, the gamemaster and players were given the freedom to develop Fasalk's character during the adventure, as the designers did not include him in later supplements. Peter M. Schweighofer wrote his entry, and Mike Vilardi provided his illustration.
