Elam Mattic

Elam Mattic was once a resident of Alderaan before relocating to the planet of Taris.

Biography

Having been raised on Alderaan, Elam Mattic's family kept an animal companion, of an unknown type, that they decided to call Hyperdrive.

A blaster pistol was gifted to Elam by their uncle, Louie Mattic, who also instructed them in its operation. When Elam made plans to move to Taris, Louie hoped that the blaster training would help protect Elam from the swoop gang related violence that was widespread on the planet.

By the year 3956 BBY, Elam had made the move to Taris. Meanwhile, their sibling departed for Tatooine to work as a miner, with their pet Hyperdrive accompanying either Elam or their sibling. Louie's worries were not unfounded, as in that year, Elam's apartment located in the Lower City was under the influence of the Black Vulkars, a criminal organization known for randomly killing civilians in the streets as part of their war against their rivals, the Hidden Beks.

Due to the high levels of crime, Elam kept their most prized belongings, including 100 credits, a set of Republic mod armor, and the blaster pistol given by their uncle, safely stored inside a strongbox. This strongbox was secured with a computerized touch panel that required a password, and it was supposedly impossible for Tarisians to hack into because it was a foreign and, by 3956 BBY, an obsolete model. Despite this, Elam implemented an additional security measure by placing a minor gas mine.

However, the strongbox was broken into by the mind-wiped former Jedi named Revan and their companions when they stumbled into Elam's residence during the Sith Empire's control over Taris. Louie had left an electronic message on Elam's personal message center, which was located next to the strongbox, and this message contained the answers to all of the security questions: the name of Elam's pet (Hyperdrive), the relative who taught Elam blaster usage (Uncle), and Elam's planet of origin (Alderaan). After disarming the mine, Revan and their associates gained access to the crate and took its contents for their own purposes while Elam was away.

Behind the scenes

Elam Mattic is only present as an unseen non-player character within the video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. The species and gender of this character are never specified.

Elam's significance in the game is minimal, as they are simply the owner of a strongbox that the player, Revan, can loot, and doing so has no impact on the story or serve as part of a quest.

As is typical of many role-playing video games, stealing from Elam's room does not affect the player's moral alignment.
