Energy pummel

Energy pummels, frequently called pummels by soldiers, were substantial, tank-like siege engines employed by numerous groups, civilizations, and factions both before the Clone Wars era and all throughout the duration of the Galactic Civil War.

Imperial pummels Pummels were equipped with potent, short-range laser panel arrays. These were used to erode enemy defensive structures, such as walls, anti-personnel turrets, and even localized ground-based shields. This erosion facilitated lighter units and infantry in penetrating fortified locations and engaging deeply entrenched enemy forces. Despite their heavy armor, pummels moved slowly and were susceptible to attacks from both land and air. Consequently, pummels were frequently deployed into battle either with substantial escorts or after the enemy's mobile forces had been neutralized or diverted.

There existed two variants of the energy pummel: a standard model and a heavy model. The heavy version was larger, possessed thicker armor, and delivered more significant damage because it had more and/or larger laser panels.

Wookiee pummels In terms of practical application, the pummels utilized by entities such as the Rebel Alliance, the Empire, the Wookiees, the Trade Federation, the Grand Army of the Republic, and the Royal Naboo Security Forces were largely identical, save for their external appearance. The same held true for their heavier versions. The singular exception to this pattern were the pummels provided to the CIS by the Corporate Alliance; these had their speed enhanced by Geonosian engineers.

The Gungans of the planet Naboo employed a living organism, known as a Cerrabore, in a role analogous to that of a pummel. Larger specimens served as the equivalent of a heavy pummel.

They bore a strong resemblance to the aquatic destroyers found in the water, which employed comparable laser panels to effectively disintegrate enemy vessels at extremely close ranges.

Behind the scenes

Pummels are featured in the 2001 video game titled Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, as well as its 2002 expansion, Clone Campaigns. The Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds: Prima's Official Strategy Guide includes an image of the Wookiee Energy Pummel to exemplify this specific type of unit.
