Energy pummel

Energy pummels, frequently shortened to just pummels by soldiers, functioned as large, tank-like siege engines. Numerous organizations, civilizations, and factions employed them from before the Clone Wars era all the way through the Galactic Civil War.

Imperial pummels To break down enemy defensive structures, pummels made use of potent, short-range laser panel arrays. These structures included walls, automated anti-personnel turrets, and even localized ground-based shields. This allowed lighter units and infantry forces to penetrate fortified locations and fight entrenched enemy forces. Despite possessing heavy armor, pummels were quite slow and susceptible to attacks from both land and air. To counter this, pummels were often deployed into combat with heavy escorts, or after the enemy's mobile forces had been neutralized or diverted.

Energy pummels came in two primary variants: a standard model and a heavier version. The heavy version was larger, featured thicker armor plating, and delivered more significant damage due to the incorporation of additional and/or larger laser panels.

Wookiee pummels In terms of functionality, the pummels employed by various groups, including the Rebel Alliance, the Empire, the Wookiees, the Trade Federation, the Grand Army of the Republic, and the Royal Naboo Security Forces, were largely the same, with differences primarily in appearance. The same principle applied to their heavier versions. The only exception to this was the pummels provided to the CIS by the Corporate Alliance; Geonosian engineers enhanced their speed.

The Gungans of the planet Naboo utilized a living creature called a Cerrabore in a role analogous to that of a pummel, with larger specimens fulfilling the function of a heavy pummel.

They bore a strong resemblance to the aquatic destroyers used in water environments, which employed similar laser panels to effectively disintegrate enemy vessels at extremely close ranges.

Behind the scenes

Pummels are featured in the 2001 video game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds and its 2002 expansion, Clone Campaigns. The Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds: Prima's Official Strategy Guide showcases an image of the Wookiee Energy Pummel as a representative example of this unit type.
