Constructed from flexisteel cables and spanning five kilometers in length, it was released by the skiffs belonging to a trawler, subsequently being pulled along behind the vessel. The fishermen operating the skiffs kept watch on the energy pulse that jumped over the mesh, allowing them to identify any solid materials trapped inside the net.
