The EXP-7(a) Predator, an experimental yet potent blaster rifle for hunting, was produced by Exotac Arms during the era of the Galactic Civil War. This large and unwieldy rifle was owned by the hunter Kaori Batta, who possessed one of only three EXP-7(a) models ever made. She subsequently employed it on the planet Neftali to kill a modrol, which is a sizable predatory beast.
The hunting blaster rifle designated EXP-7(a) Predator, while substantial and difficult to handle, delivered exceptional power and accuracy. Featuring a dual-laser targeting apparatus, the rifle necessitated being carried on the user's back when not actively in use. The EXP-7(a) boasted a maximum effective range of 350 meters, produced a considerable report when discharged, and exhibited noteworthy recoil. It utilized a power pack capable of delivering eight shots, with a new unit costing 7,000 credits. Legal ownership was severely limited to specially authorized individuals only.
During the Galactic Civil War, Exotac Arms developed the EXP-7(a) Predator as a prototype blaster rifle. Only a trio of these rifles were ever manufactured. One was provided to Kaori Batta, a Human hunter of large game, for field testing purposes on the planet of Neftali. The remaining two prototypes were retained within Exotac's labs.
Batta, during a hunting trip originating from Exovar's Emporium located on Neftali, utilized the rifle to bring down a modrol of the ice variety. This large predatory creature had been responsible for the death of the nobleman Ghecharo and had almost killed Ghecharo's adjutant, Kleck.
Batta then demonstrated the rifle's immense power to some tourists present on Neftali. The resulting blast not only penetrated the intended target, but continued through a tree situated behind it, and also inflicted damage upon a rock located further behind the tree. A smuggler by the name of Dykara observed this demonstration and inquired with Batta about the possibility of obtaining a copy of the blaster rifle.
The EXP-7(a) Predator was initially referenced within Wretched Hives of Scum & Villainy, a sourcebook published by West End Games in January of 1997.
