Kaori Batta

A Human male character named Kaori Batta stood out as one of the most skilled big game hunters across the galaxy. He became famous for tracking down the galaxy's most dangerous beasts, often selling live specimens to zoos. He befriended Luskin Exovar soon after their initial encounter and became a regular at Exovar's Emporium, organizing expeditions into the icy wilderness of Neftali.

Biography

Kaori was born on Chandrila, the only child of the renowned big game hunter, Kylo Batta, and a woman of noble birth. Thanks to his father's profession, he enjoyed considerable freedom as a child and managed to avoid mandatory military service.

Kaori embarked on his own journey to establish a reputation as prominent as his father's, which led him to lead hunting expeditions to over a hundred different planets. He gained recognition for taking down the most formidable creatures in the galaxy, frequently capturing them alive to sell to zoos in exchange for substantial amounts of credits.

Luskin and Kaori quickly became friends after their first meeting, recognizing a shared adventurous spirit in each other. When presented with the opportunity to hunt on a harsh world like Neftali, Kaori eagerly accepted and began leading ice modrol hunts across the frozen landscapes. These hunting expeditions proved to be both popular and lucrative.

Despite his expertise and reputation, wealthy aristocrats who had paid handsomely for his services were not always pleased with his advice. Kaori once called off a hunting expedition due to severely cold conditions, but one of his clients, an Imperial nobleman from Duros named Ghecharo, insisted that they proceed regardless. Kaori guided Ghecharo and the nobleman's servant, Kleck, into the wastelands, where Kaori noticed signs of a wounded modrol that had sought refuge in a cave. Ignoring Kaori's warnings, Ghecharo and Kleck ventured into the beast's lair in search of a trophy.

Instead, the modrol killed Ghecharo and almost devoured Kleck as well, had Kaori not intervened and shot the beast as it charged out of the cave.

Personality and traits

Like his father before him, Kaori felt a strong connection to the outdoors, and the idea of serving within the confines of a starship was unappealing to him. Throughout his career as a hunter, Kaori faced death in numerous forms, but he was an accomplished survivor.

He possessed a sharp sense of humor that often bordered on sarcastic, but when faced with a life-or-death situation, his focus was intense. He could remain perfectly still for extended periods without losing concentration.

Skills and abilities

As expected of a skilled hunter, Kaori was an exceptional marksman, particularly with a hunting blaster. Additionally, he was proficient in various forms of ranged combat, from archaic slugthrowers to artillery and mounted weaponry.

Beyond his combat skills, he was a skilled survivalist, capable of living off the land and navigating even the most hostile environments with minimal equipment.

Equipment

He possessed one of only three Exotac Arms EXP-7(a) Predator hunting blaster prototypes in existence. Furthermore, during hunts, he always carried a Jengardin double-bladed vibroblade, cold-weather survival gear, and his ice modrol pelt cloak.

Behind the scenes

Kaori Batta's character was created by Paul Danner and Bill Smith for Wretched Hives of Scum & Villainy, a supplement for the Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game published by West End Games in 1997. Kaori was featured in a short story titled Beastie Chow within the book.
