A conflict transpired in the far galaxy a considerable time prior to the age of the New Republic Era. During this conflict, the Great Mothers, who are the progeny of the ancient Witch Kingdom of the Dathmiri located on the planet Peridea, were in a state of suspended animation. Upon being roused from their slumber by Mitth'raw'nuruodo, they found that their civilization had been eradicated, and both the distant galaxy and Peridea itself had been rendered largely lifeless and desolate as a consequence of the war.
Dave Filoni referenced the war in the far galaxy in "Darkness Rising," a short documentary included with Ahsoka: The Complete First Season, as part of the background information for the series.
