The Great Mothers, Klothow, Aktropaw, and Lakesis, were a trio of Nightsisters hailing from Dathomir who formed an alliance with Grand Admiral Thrawn. These Nightsisters wielded dark magick and professed the ability to perceive the interwoven strands of fate and destiny.
These three Nightsister witches, known as the Great Mothers, operated out of a fortress situated on the extragalactic planet Peridea. They were descendants of the fallen Witch Kingdom of the Dathmiri. The Witches existed before the Jedi Order, and at some point became aware of them and developed a hostile relationship. The Witches eventually entered a state of suspended animation, during which time the far galaxy was consumed by a war, leaving Peridea and the galaxy in a desolate condition. Later, the exiled Grand Admiral Thrawn discovered and revived them, only for the witches to learn that their entire culture had been decimated. Thrawn partnered with the Witches, hoping to escape his exile and return to his galaxy. They aided Thrawn's forces in surviving on Peridea. In exchange for contacting Thrawn's former associate, Morgan Elsbeth, the Witches, along with a collection of artifacts from their catacombs, were promised passage to the galaxy alongside Thrawn's forces.
Baylan Skoll and his apprentice, Shin Hati, also believed that the three sought to escape Peridea to evade a power greater than themselves. Following their departure from Peridea, the Witches and the remaining crew of the Chimaera journeyed to the planet Dathomir with their acquired cargo.
The debut of the Great Mothers occurred in "Part Six: Far, Far Away," which was the sixth installment of the Ahsoka television series. In Greek mythology, the Fates were a trio of goddesses who determined destiny by spinning, measuring, and severing the threads of fate. These goddesses were named Clotho, Atropos, and Lachesis, names which bear a striking resemblance to those of the Great Mothers.
