The Faruun were an intelligent species of starship engineers originating from Firefist, a satellite galaxy to the main galaxy; they came from beyond the galactic boundaries, making them extra-galactic.
Living in the satellite galaxy Firefist, which is located near the south-west area of the galaxy, the Faruun were eventually subjugated by the Tof, a race of large and savage humanoids. Faruun refugees ultimately formed alliances with other groups who had also been conquered by the Tofs, most notably the pale-skinned Nagai and the cyborg Maccabree.
The Faruun supplied a starship fleet to their allies, and under the guidance of the cyborg Lumiya, they escaped Firefist and their Tof oppressors. Their strategy was to conquer territories within the galaxy from the weakened factions involved in the Galactic Civil War, strengthen their forces, and then return to Firefist to destroy the Tofs.
Faruun starship designs were uniquely characterized by a distinct individuality that reflected the influence of their Nagai allies, resulting in no two ships being identical. Although this approach resembled the design principles of the Mon Calamari, the Faruun-Nagai vessels were easily recognized by the extensive use of chrome finishes on their hulls. They were also equipped with Nagai technology, including cloaking devices developed by the Nagai General Kruskob Tiltanka. Capital ships were named in tribute to their homeworld, after cities located on Nagi.
