The fast style of lightsaber combat was a fighting method employed by members of the New Jedi Order, with Kyle Katarn being one such practitioner.

This combat form involved swift, abbreviated movements of the lightsaber, which could be linked together in near-endless combinations, allowing for a barrage of attacks delivered at an incredible speed.
The defensive posture involved holding the lightsaber across the front of the body, prepared to block incoming attacks, deflect blaster fire, or launch quick, sharp strikes.
The primary strength of this style lay in its effectiveness in close-quarters combat against slower adversaries with weak defenses, or against multiple opponents who lacked melee weapons, especially when enhanced by Force speed. Among the three styles, this one offered strong protection from blaster projectiles. In lightsaber duels, the user could effectively defend against multiple opponents or a single, more powerful one.
However, the fast style, which relied heavily on speed and a high volume of attacks, had limitations. First, the emphasis on speed reduced the power of each blow, making them easier to block or overpower. Second, the attack range was notably shorter, requiring the user to engage multiple opponents sequentially unless they were clustered together. Third, a physically stronger opponent could quickly overwhelm the fast style's defenses. The blade's proximity to the body allowed a strong and clever opponent to relentlessly attack the user's blade, hoping to exhaust them and create an opening.

This style shared certain similarities with the Soresu form practiced by the Jedi Order, as both involved keeping the blade close to the body for rapid and effective defense against melee weapons and blasters. It also had elements in common with Ataru, incorporating acrobatic leaps and rolls to strike opponents from unexpected angles.
Tavion Axmis employed a variation of the fast style resembling Shien, making it more aggressive and offensive compared to Kyle Katarn's version. The fast style facilitated rapid parries or trap shunts, allowing users to ensnare and redirect an opponent's attack, disrupting their balance.
