Chom-Vrones were enormous worm-like creatures utilized by the Yuuzhan Vong as drilling implements. These cylindrical beings, reaching heights and widths of approximately one hundred meters, consisted of yorik coral. The Chom-Vrones consumed rock, transforming it into a semi-plasmatic substance, a process akin to that performed by Yaret-Kor cannons found on coralskippers. Upon reaching maximum capacity, the Chom-Vrone would deploy hundreds of tubes, each a meter in diameter, from its upper section, discharging the plasma onto the nearby terrain. This action also served to maintain a clear perimeter, preventing unwanted individuals from entering the area.
Following the conclusion of the war, numerous Chom-Vrones persisted on the devastated planets. A significant quantity of these creatures still existed on Wayland until 127 ABY, at which point the Ossus Project reshaped the world once more.
The initial appearance of the Chom-Vrone occurred within Emissary of the Void, a story penned in multiple parts by Greg Keyes. In Legacy (2006) 43, a typographical error resulted in the creature's name being rendered as "Chrom-Vrone."
