A holodisc
A device for recording holographic and hologrammic messages was the hologram disc, which was also known as a holodisk, holotape, or holodisc. Holodiscs had the capability of having their contents encrypted.
During the period of the Clone Wars, Padmé Amidala embarked on a mission to Cato Neimoidia. While there, she acquired a hologram disc containing information about a new Separatist droid manufacturing facility that was being financially supported by the InterGalactic Banking Clan. This evidence revealed that Senator Rush Clovis of the Banking Clan was conspiring with the Separatists.
Morgan Katarn created a recorded message for his son Kyle that disclosed the coordinates of the map leading to the Valley of the Jedi, as well as the truth regarding Kyle's potential as a Jedi. This message was encrypted. WeeGee was the only one capable of decrypting it. However, Wires, a Rebel computer expert, was able to decrypt it for Jan Ors, allowing the holorecording to be played, albeit at a very low quality.
Shortly before the Battle of Yavin, a copy of the Death Star plans was obtained as a result of a prison riot that occurred on the Death Star. Rebel prisoners succeeded in procuring the Death Star plans and transmitting them to a Rebel cell located at a base on Polis Massa. The plans were then transferred to a holodisc, which subsequently played a significant role during the Imperial raid on Polis Massa. When Imperial forces breached a command center deeper within the base, they seized the holodisc. Upon returning it to a captured communications hub, they were required to defend against Rebel forces for a short duration while the computer uploaded the data to the Imperial network. During this process, the Empire discovered that the holodisc was a diversion, but it did lead Darth Vader to the location of the actual plans, which were stored on a datacard held by Princess Leia Organa aboard the Tantive IV.
