The First Order Fleet Transport functioned as a rapid transit system for First Order soldiers, commanding officers, and various staff members, facilitating their movement between different locations on colossal starships. These vehicles were operated by astromech droids that were programmed with comprehensive ship blueprints and secure access protocols.
In one instance, a Resistance cell commandeered four of these Fleet Transports with the goal of extracting captured Resistance recruits held captive aboard the Finalizer. This was achieved by reprogramming the R5 units responsible for piloting the transports. This rescue operation encountered unforeseen difficulties when the transports ran into a pair of All Terrain Armored Transports, among other obstacles, including an encounter with Kylo Ren.
Within the Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge themed area at both Disneyland and Disney's Hollywood Studios, the Fleet Transport is utilized as the primary ride vehicle for the Rise of the Resistance attraction. A model of this vehicle was initially unveiled at the 2017 D23 Expo during the "A Galaxy of Stories" exhibit. However, its initial appearance occurred in Star Wars Battlefront II on the Unknown Regions map.
Furthermore, it was featured on promotional trading cards distributed at the "Galactic Nights" event held on December 16, 2017, specifically on a card titled "The rescue doesn't go as planned". This card revealed that one component of the upcoming ride would involve Resistance fighters hijacking a Fleet Transport to free a captured individual, only to find themselves trapped and surrounded by AT-ATs. A life-size replica displayed at Star Wars Celebration 2019 included safety guidelines written in both Aurebesh and standard English.
