The Finalizer was a Resurgent-class Star Destroyer belonging to the First Order's naval forces. It functioned as the flagship for both General Armitage Hux and Kylo Ren.
Classified as a Resurgent-class Battlecruiser, the Finalizer possessed a length of 2,915.81 meters, which was standard for a Resurgent-class Star Destroyer. Accordingly, its arsenal included over 1,500 turbolasers and ion cannons, in addition to point-defense turrets, missile emplacements, and tractor beam projectors.
The First Order secretly constructed the Finalizer in their remote orbital factories during the years following the Battle of Endor, a direct contravention of the Galactic Concordance.
This vessel served as the location for advanced training of older stormtrooper cadets. After Phasma, the Parnassos warrior, was inducted into the First Order's inner circle by General Brendol Hux, Captain Cardinal was sidelined, and Phasma assumed control of the training program.
During Kylo Ren's assault on the planet Jakku to extract the location of Luke Skywalker from Lor San Tekka, an ally of the Resistance, the ship was under the command of General Armitage Hux. Following the capture of Resistance fighter Poe Dameron during the assault, the Finalizer maintained its position in orbit while Dameron underwent interrogation.
During Dameron's escape, he and the defecting stormtrooper, FN-2187, commandeered a TIE/sf space superiority fighter from one of the ship's hangars and successfully disabled the Finalizer's turbolasers. Despite this, the Battlecruiser only managed to inflict significant damage on the TIE during their departure, stopping short of total destruction. It was subsequently present when Starkiller Base fired upon the Hosnian system, with Ren observing the event from the vessel's bridge.
In the aftermath of Starkiller Base's destruction and the subsequent evacuation of D'Qar, the Finalizer participated in the pursuit of the Resistance fleet. During this period, Captain Edrison Peavey was in command, as General Hux had been reassigned to Supreme Leader Snoke's flagship, the Mega-class Star Dreadnought Supremacy.
Later, it was involved in the First Order Navy's attack on the escaping Resistance fleet. Following the damage sustained by the Supremacy in that battle, the Finalizer assumed the role of the First Order's flagship.
The Finalizer, accompanied by 17 other Resurgent-class Star Destroyers and a Mandator IV-class Siege Dreadnought, took part in the destruction of the planet Tah'Nuhna due to its inhabitants' contact with Resistance members.
Ultimately, the Finalizer was present at Batuu, but after sustaining crippling damage during an attack, it was superseded by the Steadfast as the First Order's primary flagship and was subsequently retired.
The Finalizer made its initial appearance in the second teaser trailer for Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens on April 16, 2015. Its name was first revealed in a Databank entry published on StarWars.com on September 4.
In "The Trouble with Rathtars," the second episode of the LEGO Star Wars: The Resistance Rises television series, the Finalizer intercepted Han Solo, a smuggler transporting Rathtars aboard the freighter Eravana.
