Flyby, a clone trooper who flew starfighters, served with distinction in the Republic Navy's Shadow Squadron, a unit of starfighters. In the year 22 BBY, during the tumultuous era of the Clone Wars, Flyby, known by the call sign "Shadow Six," joined Jedi General Anakin Skywalker and his squadron on a mission to eliminate the Confederate warship called the Malevolence. During this perilous assignment, Flyby skillfully navigated his BTL-B Y-wing starfighter through the treacherous Kaliida Nebula, successfully avoiding the massive neebrays that dwelled within, alongside the rest of his fellow pilots. Upon reaching the Kaliida Shoals Medical Center, the target of the Malevolence, the squadron was compelled to evade a powerful ion ray unleashed by the warship's ion cannon. Unfortunately, Flyby was unable to escape the ray's reach, resulting in his starfighter being rendered inoperable and stranded in space.

The clone trooper who flew starfighters and was known as Flyby fought for the Galactic Republic in Shadow Squadron, a unit of starfighters within the Republic Navy. He used the call sign "Shadow Six." Flyby was created on the planet of Kamino through cloning, using the genetic template of the Mandalorian bounty hunter Jango Fett. In 22 BBY during the Clone Wars, following the loss of a Republic force in the Abregado system, the Republic became aware of the Malevolence, a Subjugator-class heavy cruiser that had been constructed by the Free Dac Volunteers Engineering Corps for the Confederacy of Independent Systems. This warship was equipped with two ion cannons capable of disabling enemy ships. Jedi General Anakin Skywalker formulated a strategy to prevent the Confederate cruiser from destroying the Kaliida Shoals Medical Center, which General Grievous, the commander of the Malevolence, had selected as his next target. Shadow Squadron, under the leadership of Skywalker, his Padawan Ahsoka Tano, and Jedi Master Plo Koon, would take a shortcut to the medical center and try to destroy the bridge of the Malevolence in an attempt to kill Grievous.
After leaving the Venator-class Star Destroyer called the Resolute in BTL-B Y-wing starfighters, Skywalker communicated with Flyby and his fellow pilots, who acknowledged their Jedi General. The squadron entered hyperspace and reappeared at the Kaliida Nebula. Flyby, accompanied by his astromech droid R5-U8, followed the other pilots into the nebula, where they encountered the large neebrays that lived there. After successfully avoiding the creatures without any losses, Flyby and his squadron exited the Kaliida Nebula and arrived at the medical center. Shortly after they arrived, the Malevolence came out of hyperspace. Grievous ordered his ship's crew to target the approaching Republic starfighters and fired an ion ray from one of its ion cannons. Skywalker instructed the pilots to take evasive maneuvers, but Flyby and several other pilots were unable to move their BTL-B Y-wing starfighters out of the way in time. With his starfighter's power disabled, Flyby was stranded in space as the rest of Shadow Squadron continued toward the Malevolence.
The clone trooper pilot known as "Flyby" first appeared in "Shadow of Malevolence," the third episode of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series' first season. Dee Bradley Baker, who provides the voices for all clone troopers in the show, voiced him. Although he was not named in "Shadow of Malevolence," his name was revealed in the August 2011 sourcebook titled Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Incredible Vehicles.
