The Forbidden Fortress of the Gorax, a massive rock structure, stood tall within the Desert of Salma on Endor's forest moon. This fortress, riddled with enormous cracks and inhabited by giant spiders, served as the dwelling of a Gorax, who had taken Jeremitt and Catarine Towani captive. The Ewoks from Bright Tree Village, gripped by fear, steered clear of the Fortress. They cautioned their Human companions to do the same. However, when Logray prophesied that the Fortress held the key to finding young Mace's and Cindel's parents, Deej and his three sons were compelled to embark on a rescue mission to the ominous location.
Inside, it was characterized by deep fissures and immense arachnids. At the summit of a colossal staircase, the base of which opened into an apparently endless abyss, was where the Gorax made his home. A massive spiderweb spanned the chasm, and on it dwelled many rearing spiders that the adventurers had to battle their way through. The entire web collapsed into the abyss when the second spider was killed, leaving nothing to cushion the Gorax's subsequent fall after he was tripped by a rope trap laid by Deej and Jeremitt as he descended the stairs, and then shot in the shoulder by Catarine with Mace's blaster.
Despite this, the determined Gorax clung to the cliff face and ascended once more, posing a threat to Cindel, Wicket, and Widdle on the other side of the chasm. They were spared when Mace hurled Chukha-Trok's axe, striking the Gorax in the back of the neck. This caused the Gorax to lose his grip and plunge into the chasm, meeting his end. The adventurers, along with the Towani parents, then made their way back to Bright Tree Village, abandoning the deserted Fortress.
