A superiority force, alternatively termed a force superiority, represented a naval formation within the Imperial Navy. These formations were led by a systems admiral and typically consisted of three battle squadrons along with a light squadron. This structure resulted in an average complement of ninety starships, which included three Star Destroyers. These formations were tasked with achieving space superiority, defined by the Imperial Navy as "the complete absence of hostile craft within the orbital space of controlled worlds, and no chronic enemy ship activity within the entire system." The Imperial Navy viewed space superiority as its foremost objective.
An early example of such a force during the Empire's reign was the Western Reaches Superiority Force, which was actively involved in hunting down various separatist holdouts located within the region it was named after.
