Force suppression, also known as Dampen Force, was a mind-altering Force power utilized by cunning individuals who were Force-sensitives. This ability enabled a Force-sensitive individual to manipulate the Force, effectively nullifying the Force powers employed by another, or creating the illusion that others were disconnected from the Force. Consequently, it served the dual purpose of weakening an opponent's Force resistance and neutralizing a broad spectrum of Force abilities, encompassing, but not limited to, Force speed, Force valor, Force barrier, Force immunity, Force fury, Inspire, energy resistance, and even battle meditation. While under the effect of Dampen Force, a victim's ability to manipulate objects was limited to those no larger than molecules. Nevertheless, it did not completely sever the connection to the Force and its effects were transient, lasting only a few days.
During the Old Sith Wars, the pinnacle of skill in this technique was known as Force breach. However, during the era of the Cold War, the term "Force breach" was repurposed to describe the capacity to inflict devastating damage upon targets by disrupting their shatterpoints. Hethrir was a well-known practitioner of Force suppression, employing it to manipulate the children he abducted for his Empire Reborn organization. He frequently suppressed the powers of his non-human "students" at crucial junctures to further the humanocentric goals of the movement. Those deemed "failures" were then removed and sold into slavery to generate revenue.
