C-3PO discovers R2-D2 playing back the recording of Princess Leia's message intended for Ben Kenobi aboard the CR90 corvette - the Tantive IV - after R2-D2 fails to show up for his scheduled maintenance. When C-3PO inquires as to the reason for keeping such old data in his memory, R2-D2 proceeds to play several previously unseen messages. These messages include:
- A communication from Han Solo addressed to Luke and Leia just before he abandons Yavin 4 to face its destiny with the Death Star.
- A message from Leia to Luke just prior to the impending Imperial assault on Echo Base.
- Luke's reflections as he observes the Ewok celebrations following the Empire's downfall. C-3PO then comes to the conclusion that R2-D2 may not require servicing at that particular moment.
