Subsequent to the Battle of Yavin, both the city and the encompassing planet were subjected to harsh control by the Galactic Empire. Nevertheless, opposition to the Empire's dominion persisted robustly within the city, culminating in the eruption of civil unrest in the vicinity of Malvander's official residence after the apprehension of the rebel figurehead Yolan Bren.
