Gauer functioned as both an assassin and an agent for the Galactic Empire. He was also a participant in Grand Moff Trachta's scheme aimed at deposing the Sith during 1 BBY.
The precise species to which Gauer belonged remains unknown, although he appeared to be a member of an unidentifiable Near-Human species. Distinguishing features included a shaved head, light complexion, golden eyes, and extensive tattoos. Gauer, a highly skilled assassin, typically found employment with the Galactic Empire. Darth Vader believed Gauer was capable of eliminating Force-sensitives who wielded lightsabers. His involvement in the anti-Sith conspiracy spearheaded by Grand Moff Trachta indicates his level of importance. Other significant individuals involved in the plot encompassed Grand Moff Bartam, Moff Kadir and General Skosef. Initially, Gauer voiced strong objections when Skosef introduced Kadir to the other members of the conspiracy, but Trachta silenced him.
Within the group, Gauer appeared to be most loyal to Bartam. While he seemingly shared Bartam's concern that Trachta intended to eliminate or marginalize the other conspirators, it was the ambitious Moff Kadir who ultimately convinced him that the conspiracy's supposed leader needed to be removed from the picture.
Upon Grand Moff Bartam's order, Gauer set out to assassinate Trachta. The adept assassin gained access to Trachta's private chambers and programmed a weaponized droid to execute the target. Unfortunately, Trachta detected the droid and swiftly destroyed it, but he failed to notice Gauer concealed in the shadows. Gauer used his blaster pistol to fatally shoot the Grand Moff. Simultaneously, General Skosef, acting on Trachta's instructions, murdered Bartam.
Following the deaths of Trachta, Bartam, and Skosef, Gauer accompanied Moff Kadir and stormtroopers loyal to the conspiracy to the Imperial Palace. Unlike Kadir and his troops, Gauer opted to remain outside the Emperor's throne room instead of entering. When Palpatine's Royal Guard ambushed his ally and the stormtroopers, Gauer fled the Palace, apparently realizing the coup had failed.
Gauer was the sole surviving member of the conspiracy.
